JOAN is pleased to present FACIA SLAPSTICK, a collaborative video and performance work by Kira Nova and Ana Prvački pulling from their shared background and interest in physical comedy, dance, butoh,  stand-up, and mask work.

Kira Nova is a New York-based artist, working in both visual arts and theater. Her practice combines physical theatre, dance, stand-up, Butoh, perverted academic language and sculptural work. Nova worked as a clown in the circus throughout her youth, has backgrounds in various movement and improvisation techniques. She holds a research MA in Cultural Analysis and MA in Political Studies from the University of Amsterdam.
Nova’s work has been presented internationally at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris; MET Breuer, MoMA PS1, The Kitchen, Sculpture Center, Swiss Institute in New York; dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel (with Michael Portnoy); Hauser & Wirth in Zurich and New York; de Appel art center in Amsterdam; Studio Voltaire, Block Universe festival in London; Playground Festival at STUK in Leuven, Performatik Festival, Beursschouwburg theater in Brussels; Western Front in Vancouver; Swiss Sculpture Exhibition at Biel-Bienne in Switzerland; ArteBA, Buenos Aires; Time-Based Art Festival in Portland; Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) in Vilnius, among other venues.
She co-curated Mindaugas Triennial – the 11th Baltic Triennial of International Art at CAC, Vilnius. She is a professor at Malmo Art Academy, Sweden.

Ana Prvački is a theatre and music trained performance and installation artist. Her interdisciplinary work often deals with sound and sensuality. She uses a gently pedagogical and comedic approach and aims for a conceptual practice with a low carbon footprint.
Prvački’s work has been included in many international exhibitions including 57th Oktobarski Salon in Belgrade; 14th Istanbul Biennial; Contour Biennial in Mechelen Belgium; dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel; Sydney Biennial; Singapore Biennial; and the Turin Triennale. She has had solo exhibitions and projects at the de Young Museum, San Francisco; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston; Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin; Institute of Contemporary Arts, Singapore; and 1301PE Gallery, Los Angeles.
