Autograph
Autograph is the small press of JOAN, an experimental exhibition space in Los Angeles, documenting expressions that arise from new imaginings: alternative histories, cosmologies, and systems of release.
Corresponding with JOAN’s chapters of programming initiated in 2023, Autograph’s publications offer a channel for the questions that extend out of its featured artists’ research, practices, and personal writing. Publications include a new text, script, artwork, conversation, or their combination. Prior chapter explorations have concentrated on the limitations of language and communal structures of intervention and support.
Autograph aims to maintain porosity, allowing for the influx and flow of its community’s seekings. Autograph expands with engagement – reclaiming play by manner of archive.
Publications available at JOAN include Caitlin Berrigan’s script for A voice becomes a mirror plane becomes a holohedral wand, designed by Ella Gold as part of Berrigan’s 2023 exhibition, Cassandra with a flood in her mouth; and Sofía Córdova’s scripts, drawings, and images for GUILLOTINÆ WannaCry, designed by The Rodina as part of Córdova’s 2024 exhibition, The Wreck and not the Story of the Wreck.
