Metamorphoses, toxic alchemies, and speculative scenarios course through this matinee of experimental films and readings by Ruth Jenrbekova, Rindon Johnson, Candice Lin, and Agnieszka Polska. This final Act of three is presented at 2220 Arts + Archives as offerings to reimagine our relationships to the earthly and the elemental by exploring the ecological and the political through a queer-feminist lens. It further investigates being-with more-than-human forms while centering conceptualizations of time and matter resistant to subjugation.

The program assembles experimental spatial practices across geographic lines, and places planetary histories, fictions, and lived realities in conversation with larger geopolitical ruptures and resistances. All three Acts—the first an exhibition by Caitlin Berrigan at JOAN and the second a screening program at REDCAT—endeavor to go beyond finite conclusions, and to open up propositions to carve out space for new temporal, spatial, and material worldings.

This program, co-curated by Caitlin Berrigan and Suzy Halajian, develops from the emergent themes, associations, and lines of thought stemming from Berrigan’s solo exhibition, Cassandra with a flood in her mouth, at JOAN on view until April 15, 2023.

This program is supported by JOAN and the Caltech-Huntington Program in Visual Culture.
