SCREENING: Of space we are…
With works by A.K. Burns, Patty Chang, Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, Nancy Holt, Sondra Perry, and Cauleen Smith

Of space we are… is a screening of moving image works selected and introduced by New York-based artist A.K. Burns. For the past decade, Burns has been developing a sprawling, quasi-science fiction project, held under the umbrella title Negative Space, that explores the violence of boundary-making practices and the potential agency of working from marginalized positions. The four video works that make up the Negative Space tetralogy are non-linear allegorical narratives built around a physical system: the void, the body, land, and water. The fourth and final work in the series, What is Perverse is Liquid, will debut at the Wexner Center in February 2023. In anticipation of the project’s completion, this screening program reflects on some of its larger themes by bringing together works by artists exploring related subjects of ecological fragility, land use, and space — both terrestrial and celestial. In addition to one of Burns’s own video works, the program includes works by Patty Chang, Harry Dodge and Stanya Kahn, Nancy Holt, Sondra Perry, and Cauleen Smith — artists Burns sees as co-conspirators, peers, and predecessors.

The run time will be approximately 90 minutes.
